Nicholas Pooran was in fiery form, leading MI New York to a seven-wicket victory against Seattle Orcas in the MLC 2023 Final on Monday. Chasing a target of 184 runs, MINY reached 184/3 in 16 overs, courtesy of some fine batting from Pooran.
The MINY stand-in captain smacked an unbeaten knock of 137 runs off 55 balls, packed with 10 fours and 13 sixes. He was particularly destructive in the death overs, hitting 50 runs in the last four overs.
Pooran’s innings was the difference between the two teams, as Seattle Orcas were unable to build any partnerships in their innings. They were restricted to 183/9 in 20 overs, with Quinton de Kock top-scoring with 87 runs.
Rashid Khan and Trent Boult were the pick of the bowlers for MINY, taking three wickets each.
The victory gives MINY their first MLC title, and Pooran was named the Player of the Match.
